Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says teammate Luis Suarez proved himself the best in the country after victory over Tottenham.

Suarez came out on top against his fellow Player of the Year contender Gareth Bale - who also shone as he created both Tottenham goals.

But Reds defender Carragher said: "I've been saying for I don't know how long that he is a top player and we are delighted to have him.

"There's a lot of talk between him, Van Persie and Bale for the player of the year and those other two are top players.

"Bale showed fantastic touches in this game and excellent crosses. But Luis was man of the match so he obviously comes out on top today."
