Michael Owen has warned Danny Ings that he must step up at Liverpool.
The 22-year old striker is set to join the Reds on July 1 when his contract at Burnley expires and former Anfield great Owen has implored him to quickly improve his game so he is not found wanting.
"It's a whole new ball game when you go to a club like Liverpool," said Owen, who sits eighth on Liverpool's all-time scorers list, at the launch of BT Sport Europe.
"Then the scrutiny is on. Any weaknesses that you have in your game will be exposed at a top club.
"A lot of people think that if you are at a club like Liverpool or Manchester United then you should score 20 goals a season – but it's only true if you are good enough.
"Ings will have to make that step up into a team where things are expected of you. Not just nicking a goal every so often and making the headlines. But it is great to see lads like that come from the smaller teams into the big boys and get a chance."
