Liverpool great Owen hails Man Utd's Rooney after 41st goal

Michael Owen has congratulated Wayne Rooney after the new England skipper bumped him to fifth on the list of all-time national team scorers.

The former Liverpool star netted 40 goals in his 89-game Three Lions career but now sees himself sitting oput of the top four on the scoring chart after Manchester United's Rooney converted from the penalty spot in Wednesday night's 1-0 friendly win over Norway.

Rooney's goal was his 41st in his 96th international appearance and his efforts were praised by former Red Devils teammate Owen on Twitter.

Rooney now sits outright fourth on England's all-time scoring chart behind leader Sir Bobby Charlton (49), Gary Lineker (48) and Jimmy Greaves (44).
