Liverpool great Gerrard considered for Everton job after Ancelotti's departure

Liverpool great Steven Gerrard is being considered for the Everton job after Carlo Ancelotti's departure.

The Daily Star says the Everton board are considering appointing Liverpool icon Steven as their next permanent boss following the departure of Ancelotti who left for Real Madrid on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a disappointing campaign for Evertonians who, despite a promising start, slumped to a mid-table finish without European football.

The announcement of Ancelotti in December 2019 was met with optimism from Toffees fans who saw this as a bold and exciting appointment to put Everton in the mix with some of the elite teams in the country; that simply hasn't happened.

Now a new strategy is needed with the Everton board were due to meet at 3pm on Tuesday to discuss who should lead the team next season.

The board are drawing up a shortlist of desired managers and one surprise name on the list is current Rangers boss Gerrard.

Gerrard isn't the only candidate, other names on the shortlist include ex-Reds manager Rafa Benitez, former boss David Moyes and his replacement Roberto Martinez.

Paulo Fonseca and Erik ten Hag are the other two names reportedly on the eye of the Everton board.
