Liverpool are making a late move to land free agent Goran Pandev.
The Daily Star Sunday says it was reported the Macedonian would be having a medical at Inter Milan sometime this week.
But Kop boss Rafa Benitez urgently needs to strengthen his squad, without having the funds to do it, and is looking into hijacking the Italian club's move.
Pandev, 26, won't cost a fee, even though he is valued at £15million. Liverpool, though, have fierce competition from Inter - and also Juventus and AC Milan.
A host of Premier League clubs are eyeing the situation as well, including Arsenal and Spurs.
New Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini could also be interested in a player who has scored 48 goals in 159 league appearances for Lazio and 22 in 52 for his country.
Pandev is seeking wages of £100,000 a week - which is inflated largely because of there being no fee.
