Liverpool fans hold Balotelli back in clash with Man Utd's Smalling

Two Liverpool supporters acted as minders for Mario Balotelli during Liverpool's loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Italian striker was brought down by Chris Smalling right near the advertising boards in the second half of his side's eventual 2-1 defeat at Anfield.

?A pair of Reds supporters sitting in the front row visibly restrained the fiery Balotelli, who appeared furious at the challenge by Smalling, which was a clever intervention as Liverpool had already lost Steven Gerrard to a red card in the 46th minute.

?In a dramatic contest on Merseyside, Juan Mata struck twice for United - either side of the break - before Daniel Sturridge pulled one back for Liverpool with just over 20 minutes left prior to Wane Rooney's late penalty miss.

?However, the damage had already been done as Brendan Rodgers' side dropped five points behind their arch enemies who currently occupy fourth position on the Premier League table.???
