Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is close to a shock England recall for the World Cup.

The center-back has enjoyed a renaissance in recent matches, impressing at the weekend against Manchester City in a 1-0 win.

Gomez had not been in manager Gareth Southgate's thinking for the tournament in November and December.

Per The Sun, injuries to Kyle Walker and Reece James mean he is one who could come into the group that goes to Qatar.

The 25-year-old has not played for England in two years, but does have 11 caps under Southgate.
