Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been working with teenage midfielder Trey Nyoni.

The Netherlands centre half has taken on the youngster, who is only 16, as his mentee.

Nyoni arrived from Leicester City in the summer and has been training with the first team.

He was even on the bench for their 3-0 win over Brentford at the weekend.

“Virgil came up to him and congratulated him on training with them," Liverpool youth coach Jay Spearing told Liverpool's official website.

“He said, 'He's got a lot more to come' and he really liked him. Virgil also came out to watch the U-18s against Middlesbrough to see how Trey was playing."
