Liverpool captain Van Dijk facing longer ban after new FA charge

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been hit with a new charge after his red card at Newcastle.

Van Dijk has been banned for one game after being shown a direct red for denying Alexander Isak a goalscoring opportunity in the first-half of Liverpool's 2-1 win,

But the FA have now charged him with a breach of FA Rule E3.1.

It's alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official.

Van Dijk turned on ref John Brooks and the fourth official after being sent off.

It took several minutes for the Dutchman to leave the pitch before manager Jurgen Klopp intervened. Should he be found guilty, Van Dijk could see his ban extended by up to three games.
