Liverpool captain Van Dijk: Can we challenge Man City?

Liverpool will lock horns with Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

That is the view of Reds' captain Virgil Van Dijk, whose side are within touching distance of top spot.

The two sides will meet in the Premier League next Saturday lunchtime right after the current international break.

Asked by reporters if they can challenge City for the league, Van Dijk said: “I hope so.

“[On Sunday] I looked in the dressing room and it felt like we were the Under-23s. But still we have the quality and if you're good enough, you're old enough. But we need to see, we need a bit of luck, we need no injuries and need consistency.

“Overall this season we've been doing well, but the season is not decided in November and there could be so many twists and turns, we all know that. We focus on the game ahead of us.

Brentford was a big one for many reasons. We did that well and when we come back there is a very big one away and we'll see if we're ready for that test."
