Liverpool are edging closer to landing Fulham striker Clint Dempsey.

The People says Liverpool are planning one final push to sign Dempsey this week.

Fulham have so far received no official bid for Dempsey, but Kop boss Brendan Rodgers has made it clear to his board that signing the midfielder is his main priority before deadline day.

The Londoners want a transfer fee of £10million for Dempsey, but there are fears that manager Martin Jol's comments before the start of the season - claiming the player wanted to leave - have affected his value.

And Dempsey is still seething over the way his reputation has been tarnished during the saga.
