Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez insists midfielder Javier Mascherano accepts he was out of order over his behaviour at Manchester United.

Benitez told liverpoolfc.tv: "Javier after the game recognized that he made a mistake. He apologized to his teammates and the supporters. Now he knows that after the sending-off he lost a little bit of his control and he apologized also to the referee.

"I talked with him and said we would fine him as a club. He accepted this and told me he wanted to give the money to charity. The player is always a fantastic person and a fantastic professional."
