Liverpool have opened talks with Benfica for midfielder Andre Gomes.
The Sunday Times says Liverpool have targeted Gomes and the Portuguese club want £12.4m for the 20-year-old.
Gomes is seen at Liverpool as cover for crocked defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva.
But Liverpool chiefs are reluctant to meet Benfica's valuation for the youngster.
