Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt has thanked the Dutch public for the reception Holland's players received on Monday.
Kuyt was surprised by the amount of people who attended a welcome home ceremony for the beaten World Cup finalists in Amsterdam.
"I did not know that the Netherlands could be so united, which is unique," said Kuyt. "It's amazing when you are thanked in this way. At that moment you are really proud to be Dutch.
"We can be proud of ourselves: we have given everything that we had inside. We just did not win the cup, but we are proud of each other. We should cherish this."
