Liverpool ace Lallana relieved to score first England goal

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana admitted relief at scoring his first goal for the England national team.

The 28-year-old helped the Three Lions to a 1-0 win over Slovakia in their opening 2018 World Cup qualifier by scoring in the 95th minute of the game, which was his 27th appearance for the national team.

"That goal has been a long time coming,'' he told ITV after Sam Allardyce's first game in charge.

"I put pressure on myself to score goals. We kept plugging away. As a unit we played brilliantly and they didn't have any chances. Of course it's a great start for Sam and the team.

"He made it clear he wanted a clean sheet and I thought we were very disciplined.

"It was going to be tough and I thought we were very disciplined today at times and as the game went on and they went down to 10 men we did create the chances. Sometimes you've just got to stick it out until the last minute and thankfully we got the goal.''
