Lille have opened talks with Villarreal about a permanent deal for midfielder Rio Mavuba.

The ex-Bordeaux star joined Lille in January on-loan after failing to settle in his first six months in Spain.

Mavuba would like to extend his stay, but talks are only at the initial stage and Lille also face competition from Olympique Marseille for the France international.
