Levante coach Paco Lopez on Barcelona defeat: My players insist Umtiti handball was legit

Levante coach Paco Lopez insists their 1-0 defeat at Barcelona was undeserved.

In the final minutes of their 1-0 defeat at the Camp Nou, Levante claimed for handball after Jose Luis Morales' shot hit Samuel Umtiti in the area. After a lengthy VAR review, no penalty was given and Levante were awarded a corner instead.

"I haven't seen the incident," Levante boss Lopez said after the game. "My players are telling me that it did hit [Umtiti]'s arm, that he diverted it and that it should've been a penalty.

"But if they've looked at it and said no, then we'll think no too. I couldn't see it from my position."

Levante pushed for an equaliser towards the end of the encounter and Lopez felt his side deserved more for their efforts.

"I'm leaving here annoyed because no one likes losing, even more so after the game the team had," Lopez added.

"The commitment, the application, the organisation that we had. The risks. When Barcelona let you, you have to have the ball when you [get the chance] to have it.

"I'm miffed because could've got points here but, at the same time, I'm proud of the work this team did and how they believe and how that feeling makes the team convinced of what they're doing and what they're working for."
