Aston Villa chairman Randy Lerner intends to make a managerial appointment for the long-term.
Lerner sacked Paul Lambert this week after defeat to Hull City.
The Birmingham Mail says Glenn Hoddle and Sean Dyche are thought to be under consideration while club scouts are carrying out due diligence on a number of other names.
The new man will have to excite supporters again with an attractive playing style.
He also must be willing to work with a director of football in the future as Villa are also looking to create that post in the coming months.
