Leicester star Drinkwater to use Euro 2016 snub as England motivation

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has stated that he will be extra motivated to do well for England after being snubbed for the 2016 European Championships.

Despite playing a crucial role in Leicester's title triumph last season, Drinkwater was overlooked for Euro2016 by former England manager Roy Hodgson.

Upon the appointment of Sam Allardyce as new England boss though, Drinkwater has duly been included in the Three Lions' squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Slovakia and the Leicester star has now stated that he is looking to use the Euro 2016 snub as motivation to do well for his country.

The 26-year-old said: "Yeah I would say it is motivation.

"On the other side of that it is probably best I didn't finish on just winning the title because I might have got sloppy this season and settled with what I have done.

"So kind of ending the season on a bit of a low might have kicked me back into gear to get going again this season.

"I was obviously disappointed, but football is full of highs and lows and there were enough highs last season, so I can't complain.

"My initial thought was I need to enjoy what has happened. The season Leicester had was unreal but then watching the games I was wishing I was there."
