Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has claimed that Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was the reason he never made his way into the Red Devils first team.
However, the 26-year-old, who progressed through United's youth academy, admitted that Scholes proved to be an extremely useful teacher during his time at United.
When asked about who blocked his progress at United, Drinkwater said: "People like Paul Scholes, so what are you going to do with that?
"I looked up at him as an idol. I've watched him since I was a little kid, so I couldn't have had a better teacher."
Drinkwater moved to Leicester from United in 2012 in search of first-team football and has been an integral part of Claudio Ranieri's Foxes side that currently sits five points clear on top of the Premier League table.
