Darren Ferguson, who guided Posh to three promotions and a Johnstone's Paint Trophy across two spells as boss, saw his new Rovers charges torn apart by Graham Westley's hosts.
Elder was on the scoresheet in the rout, firing the first goal of his career after halftime.
