Leicester manager Rodgers opens door for Papy Mendy

Brendan Rodgers says Papy Mendy has a future at Leicester City.

The Frenchman has not started since Rodgers became manager in February and has been linked with a move away this summer.

But Rodgers insists Mendy has proven his worth.

"I really like him," said Rodgers.

"I think he has been unfortunate. It is all down to styles. I tend to play with one controlling defensive type player. Recently in some of the bigger games I have gone for two but even Hamza Choudhury has been playing more advanced.

"Papy is more of a holding player similar in the mould to Wilf, whereas Hamza can go and play further up. He gives us that pressing element.

"I think (Mendy) has a future but the style change... If you play with two controlling players he is great and I think he can do the role that Wilf has been playing and do it to a high level as well, but of course he hasn't played so much.

"He is a player who has been outstanding in training. He has got on with his work and respects the position he is in, and I am sure there would be interest in him, but our plan is to keep what we have and look to add some more quality."
