Leicester make opening bid for Wigan midfielder McArthur

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has moved for Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur.

The Telegraph says Pearson has made a £5-million bid for McArthur.

Pearson has turned to McArthur after growing frustrated in his pursuit of Esteban Cambiasso and his offer for the Scotland international was turned down on Tuesday morning.

However, Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has hinted that McArthur could be sold if Leicester City return with an improved offer.

He told the Telegraph: "We received a bid from Leicester and we've given them our reply this morning - he's not for sale at that price.

"Our number-one priority is the club, the second is the player, and we always look at things in that order.

"I wouldn't stand in the way of anybody wanting to playing in the Premier League, though, so we'll see how much Leicester want him."
