Aston Villa are waiting for Newcastle to open talks about signing Matt Targett permanently.
Targett is currently on loan from Aston Villa at Newcastle and doing an excellent job. Leeds look lacking in the position, and there is speculation that the Whites could be interested if the 26-year-old does not sign permanently for Newcastle.
The Birmingham Mail says it has been claimed that interest has emerged from Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United in Targett after his superb form.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was asked about Targett's future on Friday, to which he said: "No discussions with Villa on Matt at the moment. We're still in the season and we're being very respectful to Villa for lending us Matt, we'll make that decision at the end of the season."
