Leicester grateful to departing midfielder Cambiasso

Leicester City have praised Esteban Cambiasso for his efforts during his one-year stay at the club.

The 34-year-old Argentine midfielder joined the Foxes on a free transfer from Inter Milan last summer and was a key part of the squad that eventually finished 14th on the Premier League table after spending most of the campaign on the bottom.

The Foxes offered Cambiasso a new deal to remain at the King Power Stadium but the veteran has turned it down, prompting the following statement from the East Midlands club.

"Leicester City Football Club would like to express its sincerest thanks to Esteban for his exceptional contribution during the 2014/15 season, which saw the Argentine midfielder play a central role in the Club's successful fight to remain in the Barclays Premier League," read the statement.

"Our efforts to retain his services began before the end of last season and the Club appreciates the professional manner in which Esteban and his representatives have conducted themselves during negotiations since that time.

"We fully respect Esteban's wishes and wish him well in his future career."

Cambiasso made 31 league appearances for Leicester, scoring five goals, and won the Player of the Year award for the 2014/15 season.
