LEICESTER CITY V WATFORD RECAP: Vardy on target again as Foxes beat Hornets

Jamie Vardy scored for the ninth consecutive Premier League match as Leicester City moved in to third place with a 2-1 victory over Watford at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Ngolo Kante put the home side ahead in the 52nd minute, with his shot slipping past Watford shot-stopper Heurelho Gomes, who perhaps should have done better.

Vardy doubled Leicester's advantage 13 minutes later, converting from the penalty spot after he was tripped in the box by Gomes.

Troy Deeney got a goal back for the visitors with a spot kick of their own in the 75th minute, but they were unable to find an equaliser in the final stages of the contest.

Leicester City: 2 (Kante 52', Vardy 65')

Watford: 1 (Deeney 75')

King Power Stadium, Leicester – 32,029

TALKING POINTS
Vardy is closing in on Ruud van Nistelrooy's Premier League record of scoring in 10 consecutive top flight matches and given the form the Foxes star has been showing in recent weeks you would be a brave man to bet against him equalling the former Manchester United star's record.

Watford's goalkeeper Gomes had a day to forget, with his meek effort at stopping Kante's shot gifting Leicester the opening goal, before giving away the penalty which allowed Vardy to double the lead.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Leicester travel to St James' Park to face Newcastle, while Watford host Manchester United at Vicarage Road.

QUOTES CORNER
Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri is happy with his team's fast start to the Premier League season:

"We could not have imagined this, but it is only November. It's not May. We still have to achieve 40 points first.

"Jamie is fantastic. He'll be fit for England. After the goal he continued to run and fight - he's OK.

"It is important to continue the momentum. It's not easy for us, but we are very ambitious."

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores on his goalkeeper's performance:

"We have to accept that there are accidents in football sometimes.

"Huerelho knows he has out support, it is they style of this team. He feels he is guilty, but the rest of us don't feel that way. We are really happy with his performance in general.

"We had lots of possession of the ball. Leicester were playing for the counter-attack and we didn't always use the possession of the ball in the right way."
