Paraguay legend Jose Luis Chilavert has blasted Diego Maradona for his criticism of Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Maradona says Valdes is made to "look good" by his Barca teammates.

"For me, Valdes is the best in the world," Chilavert told COM Radio. "When Barca need calm, he transmits that.

"He also has great capacity and handling.

"Maradona knows nothing about football," he added. "Footballers have to look after themselves and not get into drugs.

"He has done a lot of damage to football. He has even spoken ill of Pope John Paul II, which is why he is exiled in the United Arab Emirates."
