Leeds keep Phillips waiting on new contract talks

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips faces an anxious wait over new contract talks.

The Daily Star says Phillips has been keen for Leeds to hand him an improved contract to secure his long-term future at Elland Road. The Yorkshire club rejected a £55m bid from West Ham in the last transfer window and promised Phillips his situation would be resolved, in the hope of bringing an end to the speculation about him.

But Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani is not prepared to make the 26-year-old an offer until June. And even then, a bumper new deal worth around £100,000-a-week will depend on whether or not the club avoids relegation from the Premier League.

If Leeds fail to secure their top flight status, they will have no choice but to cash in on the midfielder. But if Jesse Marsch's men beat the drop, Leeds bosses are confident Phillips will snub offers from elsewhere and agree to remain with his hometown club.

Phillips' contract runs until the summer of 2024.
