Lazio were keen on Liverpool's Sunderland loanee Borini

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has revealed that the club held some interest in Fabio Borini during the summer transfer window.

The 22-year old Italian striker joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Liverpool on deadline day but it may have been a different story if the Reds wanted to permanently sell the former AS Roma man.

"His name was under consideration, but Liverpool didn't want to sell him outright and they preferred to keep him in the Premiership," Lotito told Corriere dello Sport.

Borini arrives at the Stadium of Light having scored just two goals in 20 appearances for Liverpool.
