Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson is happy seeing Jon Flanagan handed a new deal.

The fullback has missed this season due to injury.

Lawrenson wrote in the Liverpool Echo: "This was Liverpool saying 'listen kid, we know you've been through it these last 18 months but we are with you, we're going to support you and, as far as we are concerned, we're convinced you will be as good when you come back as you were before you became injured'.

"A clever move from the club, as it ticks all the boxes in the right way."
