Late goal sinks Australia after brave fightback

Australia have been knocked out of the East Asian Cup, going down 3-2 to Japan on Thursday night after recovering from going two goals behind. Manabu Saito, Yuya Osako put Japan ahead with the score looking fixed at 2-0.

But Mitch Duke and Tomi Juric scored their first goals for Australia to level only for Osako to seal the game a minute later in what was a late flurry of three goals in four minutes.

Having played out a stalemate against South Korea, Australia now sit on the bottom of the table in the four-team tournament, unable to win.
