Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has praised the considered approach of the board to their transfer work.
The Toon skipper knows that many people drew comparisons with Man City's takeover when Mike Ashley sold the club to PIF last year.
But insists Newcastle aren't operating like an organisation simply throwing money around as suggested by some observers.
Lascelles told Chronicle Live: "Yeah. As sportsmen we know there is always going to be things said and people have jobs to do.
"We understand that but at the same time there have been teams that have spent millions, I won't name teams. But if you don't have that work ethic and togetherness it doesn't matter how much money you spend.
"It is about players playing for the manager and having leaders in the team. We've got all that and that's why we are where we are."
