Las Vegas franchise on hold until after 2018

MLS Commissioner Don Garber has confirmed that expanding into Las Vegas will not occur until at least 2019.

The 'Entertainment Capital of the World' were hoping to pursue a professional soccer franchise in the coming years but MLS' undefined plan of shifting into Nevada has forced them to put a bid on hold.

Garber sent a letter to Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman explaining the reasons why the Sin City will have to wait to infiltrate the world game.

"I want to truly thank you for your efforts to bring an MLS expansion Club to Las Vegas. We deeply appreciate all of the work that you and your City Council members have done to support the development of a soccer stadium in your thriving downtown," read Garber's letter.

"Unfortunately, given the timing of our expansion rollout and the uncertainty as to when we might be able to move forward in Las Vegas, we are no longer considering Las Vegas as an expansion market until after 2018."
