Lamela receives praise from Defoe for shining Tottenham performance

Jermain Defoe has applauded Erik Lamela for his brilliant performance in Tottenham's 2-1 win over Sheriff Tiraspol.

The 21-year old Argentine attacker managed to score his first Spurs goal and won the penalty which allowed Defoe to break the north London club's European goalscoring record which prompted plenty of praise from the England international.

"Lamela was unbelievable tonight, good on the ball, strong," Defoe told ITV4.

"Sometimes it is difficult coming to a new club at such a young age.

"Delighted for him he got the goal."
