La Liga to be shown on YouTube

YouTube has agreed to broadcast Spanish football highlights and exclusive content through a dedicated channel following a deal with production company Mediapro, reports SportsPro. The three-year agreement will see content from the Spanish Primera Division, Segunda Division and Copa del Rey (excluding the final) available for free to Spanish users on YouTube's 'La Liga' channel 30 minutes after the final whistle. The financial terms of the deal were not released.

The Scottish Premier League (SPL) has an existing highlights content deal with YouTube, whilst the English Premier League has similar deal with Yahoo.

The agreement will improve supporters' access to their clubs, according to YouTube spokesperson Maria Ferreras: "We always go to the bigger teams, but there are many more and now all fans can easily follow what your team has done."

Ferreras also revealed the video-sharing website is hoping to secure more rights in the future: "We believe it will be a great project and encourage other major leagues to be on YouTube."
