LA Galaxy's Beckham targets England landmark

LA Galaxy's recent acquisition is currently four short of his century having started his international adventure over 10 years ago.

Beckham has been assured by Steve McClaren he still features in his plans despite his much-publicised move across the Atlantic to MLS.

"The manager has made me aware that if my fitness is right then he'll pick me," he told the Sunday Mirror. "Hopefully I'll stay fit and travelling won't be a problem.

"I'd love to reach 100 caps because six months ago I never thought it would be possible, but I have been given another chance - and hopefully I can reach that milestone.

"My international ambitions have always been the same, from the moment I can remember wanting to play for my country, to the moment I was selected to play for my country, to the moment I was given the armband, to the moment I was asked to come back into the team.

"In my 11 years of playing for England I have always believed we will win something at some point because we can't have the players and team we've got and not win something.

"But sometimes football is a funny old game - as the saying goes - and the expectations in England are like those in the US, where everyone is very upbeat about the sport in general."
