Newcastle Jets coach Branko Culina feels the victory over MLS giants LA Galaxy in front of a massive crowd will give the team the boost it needs to push for A-League finals.

The Jets overcame a tardy start to eventually defeat David Beckham and the Galaxy 2-1 in front of 23,317 people at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Saturday night and Culina believes that experience will hold his players in good stead.

"I'm sure the players, like the coach, must feel that this is only the beginning," Culina said yesterday.

"They saw on Saturday what potential everything has, and if you're doing well there's no reason why that kind of atmosphere and support will not flow on towards the finals.

"If we're lucky enough to get a finals game, I'm sure that Newcastle can reproduce that kind of support and enthusiasm that was there on Saturday because back a few years ago, the city showed that it is quite willing to get behind its football team."
