LA Galaxy's Keane delighted to have joined Aston Villa

Robbie Keane admits it is a good feeling to have finally joined Aston Villa.

The Republic of Ireland captain has signed a short-term deal from LA Galaxy during MLS' off-season and he is thrilled to be playing for the club that tried to sign him back in 1999.

"It was fairly close all those years, there were talks going on and then I joined Coventry," he said.

"There has been speculation between me and Villa over the years. Every transfer window, it seems to talks about me signing for Villa, but I'm delighted to finally be here now.

"When you're 17 or 18 you're full of energy and sometimes you do silly running for no reason, just because of the energy that you have.

"When you get older and play the amount of games I have, you get wiser, you read the game better than you do when you were 17.

"I'm not that old. I'm only 31. I've still got a good few years left in me. As long as I feel good and sharp, that's the most important thing.

"I had a good end to the season with Galaxy and the Irish set-up and a good few weeks off and I'm raring to go.

"I still have a lot to offer. I still could have played in the Premier League for a few years with different clubs.

"I've chosen a different path, but it is nice to be back."
