LA Galaxy's Donovan: New England came to defend

LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan believes New England Revolution came to The Home Depot Center with only one thing in mind - defence.

The Revs held the Galaxy to a 1-1 draw on Sunday despite scoring an early goal but Donovan feels that Steve Nicol's side set out to try and negate a more talented Galaxy outfit.

"I think their objective was pretty clear from the beginning,'' Donovan said.

"We let ourselves down by giving up the early goal, we were climbing uphill from then.

"They had no intention of winning the game. That's how we knew they were going to play, that's how Steve Nicol-coached teams play, and give them credit, they did what they set out to do."

But Nicol's comments disagreed with what Donovan says as he feels his side were good enough to take maximum points back home with them.

"I think the manner in which we did it was a team effort,'' Nicol said. "We were in good shape, we defended well, we picked good spots. We are unlucky not to score more than one goal."
