LA Galaxy's Beckham receives praise from Donovan and Arena for playing hurt

LA Galaxy star David Beckham has been praised for showing plenty of courage in yesterday's Western Conference final loss to FC Dallas. The 35-year old Englishman was struggling with a groin strain early in the 3-0 defeat but soldiered on in an attempt to get his team back into the match after David Ferreira opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark.

Beckham's endeavors were in vain as the Texans ran over the Galaxy to move through to the MLS Cup final but he did receive some kind words from coach Bruce Arena and teammate Landon Donovan.

"We saw at the beginning of the game, probably 15 minutes in, that he had a problem," said Arena.

"We talked to him at half-time. There was a chance that we were going to take him off but he stayed in there."

Donovan added: "He has been playing through a lot of pain in the last few weeks, more than you know.

"When you come back that quickly at that age from an Achilles injury, there are going to be side-effects."

After the loss, the Galaxy will now prepare for their trip to Australia where they take on A-League club Newcastle Jets on Saturday, November 27.
