Veteran goalkeeper Kevin Hartman has announced his retirement from professional soccer.
The 39-year old gloveman has ended a 17-year MLS career after spending the 2013 season as back-up at New York Red Bulls.
Hartman, who made his name with LA Galaxy, also spent time with Sporting Kansas City (then the Wizards) and FC Dallas while making five appearances for the USA national team.
He said upon announcing his retirement: "It has been an honor and thrill to play in Major League Soccer over the last 17 years, and I first want to thank my family and friends for their unbelievable support.
"In addition, I also want to recognize my former coaches, teammates, clubs and, most importantly, the fans for being a huge part of this ride.
"It was a privilege to have this dream job and watch soccer and the league grow by leaps and bounds since I began my career. I am truly looking forward to the next stage of my life and am very thankful for the many memories and relationships I have made along the way."
During his extensive career, Hartman won two MLS Cups, two Supporters' Shields and two US Open Cups with the Galaxy, the 2013 Supporters' Shield with the Red Bulls and from an individual viewpoint, the 1999 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
