Dirk Kuyt was surprised Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard wasn't given the England captaincy this week.

Kuyt's Holland defeated England 3-2 at Wembley on Wednesday.

"For me, Stevie is the main one for the England team to be the captain," said Kuyt, who helped the Dutch to a 3-2 win.

"I was surprised. On and off the pitch he is such a personality. He is the perfect leader for Liverpool and England."
