Kuranyi: Werner will be stronger for first Chelsea season

Former Germany striker Kevin Kuranyi is backing Timo Werner for a big season with Chelsea.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kuranyi discussed the challenges the former RB Leipzig man had to face in his debut Premier League campaign.

"Playing in England is very difficult," the ex-Bundesliga striker said about Werner. "It's different to how he played at Leipzig. He played in another position.

"He is a goal-getter who needs the ball in the box, who needs the ball with speed."

The German attacker's pace allows him to be a useful asset in defensive situations too, as he leads the line in the press. In his first season at Stamford Bridge, the 25-year-old scored 12 goals and picked up 15 assists.

"In England sometimes you have to keep the ball and play with different tactics," Kuranyi continued.

"I hope he will score more goals for Chelsea and also regain his confidence to score for Germany too."
