Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman retains hope of landing Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum next month.

Mundo Deportivo reports Koeman sees the need to bring in a new midfielder with pace and power.

The Dutch coach believes it is necessary to add to his engine room, to increase the intensity, and is seeking someone who can start attacks from his own half and move to the opposition half looking to score a goal.

Wijnaldum 'totally fits into that profile', not only to play in Koeman's 4-2-3-1 formation, but also to contribute with defensive work.

The Netherlands international is the former Oranje coach's top target.

Koeman, however, is aware his compatriot's signing in January is almost impossible due to the Blaugrana's economic situation.
