Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is hopeful that striker Jay Rodriguez will sign a new contract with the club.
According to reports, the Saints are understood to have offered a new five-year deal to the attacker, who has been sidelined for more than a year with a knee injury.
The 25-year old will have one year left on his current deal at the end of this campaign and has been linked with Manchester City in recent times.
"He was talking to the club and it's a good player and I think it will be an important player for the next season," said the Saints boss.
"If he stays I think that is a good signal to the club, to everybody."
