Klopp gamble pays off as Liverpool youngsters edge past Shrewsbury

Liverpool have advanced to the FA Cup fifth-round with a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town.

The Reds were lead by U23 manager Neil Critchley and fielded the youngest side in their history, after Jurgen Klopp boycotted the match in favour of a winter break.

And the gamble paid off as Liverpool won the match thanks to an own goal from Manchester United academy graduate Ro-Shaun Williams.

The young defender headed a Neco Williams cross into his own net after 75 minutes.

At an average age of 19 years and 102 days, it was the youngest line-up in Liverpool's history.

Curtis Jones also became the youngest player to wear the captain's armband.

Liverpool will not play another match until February 15 when they will face Norwich City.
