Klinsmann gives Donovan opportunity to say goodbye to USA public

USA boss Juergen Klinsmann has named Landon Donovan in his 21-man squad for this week's friendly with Ecuador.

The US host the Ecuadorians in East Hartford, Connecticut on Friday which will be LA Galaxy star Donovan's final match for the national team.

Donovan, who made his debut back in 2000, will end a 15-year international career when he steps onto the pitch in the red, white and blue for the 157th time.

Klinsmann told USsoccer.com of the occasion: "Obviously, it's going to be a special night on Friday as everyone in the U.S. Soccer family will have the chance to honor the amazing career of Landon Donovan."

The US will also take on Honduras in Boca Raton, Florida four days later in what Klinsmann describes as a good opportunity to take a wider look at the American players he has available to him.

"We look at these two games as an opportunity to take a picture of the player pool as it stands now," added the German.

"Already the hierarchy starts to shift in some ways, which is normal at the beginning of a cycle. We are excited to look at this group against a very competitive team like Ecuador, and then we will have a chance to bring some different faces for the game against Honduras."
