Kilmarnock boss Johnston hoping to secure ex-Rangers, Middlesbrough striker Boyd

New Kilmarnock manager Allan Johnston is determined to convince Kris Boyd to re-sign with the club.

The 29-year old striker had a short spell with Killie last season after returning to Rugby Park where he started his career back in 2000.

Former Rangers, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Portland Timbers forward Boyd is back training with Killie and Johnston wants to sign him up ahead of the 2013/13 season.

"We'd love to keep Kris here but I don't know what will happen," he said.

"He's a top-quality player and has scored a lot of goals in his career.

"We are working on it and we'll just see how it goes."
