Key Iraq duo Mahmoud, Akram withdraw ahead of Australia clash

Iraq have lost two key players ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Australia.

Vladimir Petrovic's side will be without captain Younis Mahmoud and playmaker Nashat Akram for Tuesday night's meeting with the Socceroos in Sydney.

Both Mahmoud and Arkam informed the Iraq Football Association (IFA) that they would not travel to Australia with a disagreement on the direction of the team believed to be the main reason.

Iraq are out of contention for Brazil 2014 after recording just five points from seven Group B outings whilst Australia can book their ticket to Rio with a victory at the ANZ Stadium.
