Brian Kerr has had a big say in Newcastle United's interest in FC Groningen striker Tim Matavz.

Faroe Islands coach Kerr, who is close to Toon boss Chris Hughton, tipped off his good friend about Matavz after seeing the player knock three past his team for Slovenia.

While Kerr has cooled talk of joining Hughton at Newcastle as a new No2, his influence is still helping the Toon in their recruiting efforts.
